EVENT POSTPONED

It is with a heavy heart that we share that Black Family Day has been canceled this year due to inclement weather and unsafe conditions for attendees. This decision was not made lightly and was discussed by multiple campus and community partners. In lieu of this, we invite everyone to UC Davis for Yolo Juneteenth on June 2nd to gather and celebrate as a community. The Cross Cultural Center is working to incorporate Black Family Day Programming into this fantastic event.

5A Wine and Jazz has been postponed to coincide with the Yolo Juneteenth. We are working to secure an alternate venue and will update everyone on our new event soon. If you are not able to attend the postponed event, or would like a refund, please fill out the form below.

Please see the official message from the UC Davis Cross Cultural Center:

Dear Community,

After much consideration and deliberation in reviewing the projected weather concerns for this weekend's event, the Cross Cultural Center and the Black Family Day planning committee have made the difficult decision to cancel the event scheduled to happen Saturday, May 4.

We understand the large significance and legacy that Black Family Day has and the amount of labor that is involved with making an event like this happen. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this has caused to everyone who was looking forward to participating and coming together as a community.

Although Black Family Day won't be taking place this year, we're extending an open invitation for the entire community to join us for Yolo Juneteenth, a celebration of the Diaspora. Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 2nd, and join us at the UC Davis Activities and Recreation Center (ARC). Some of the programs and events scheduled to occur on Black Family Day will be moved to this day.

Our hearts are heavy with sadness with having to continue to face unpredictable weather patterns for our outdoor  cultural ceremonies and events that include Black Family Day, Light Festival, Powwow and La Gran Tardeada. So many variables and moving pieces have to be considered to ensure the safety and success of our events. The CCC will continue to work and commit to working with our event partners to evaluate weather-contingency possibilities for our future events.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

In community,

The Cross Cultural Center and Black Family Day Planning Committee
