Parents have a transformative impact on Give Day
Aggie parents Bruce Telkamp and Diane Turriff are among many who are committed to helping all of our students make the most of their UC Davis experience. To ensure that all students flourish in their future careers, they have given two challenge gifts this Give Day that lay the foundation for student development.
“As parents of a UC Davis junior, we believe giving each year to UC Davis ensures that our university can continue to provide an exceptional education to all students,” said Bruce, an Aggie parent and member of the Family Fellows.
By supporting academic programs like the Department of Molecular Cellular Biology, Bruce and Diane create opportunities for students to get involved with hands-on teaching labs and develop career-shaping skills from world-class professors. But they also recognize the important leadership and team building skills athletics provides, so they support the UC Davis Women’s Club Basketball team as well.
“Sports require significant out-of-state travel for students, and charitable giving is essential so all student-athletes can participate without regard to their family’s financial resources,” explained Bruce.
In preparation for Give Day, UC Davis’ largest fundraiser, Bruce and Diane are putting forth two challenge gifts for the Department of Molecular Cellular Biology and the UC Davis Women’s Club Basketball team. Challenge gifts encourage other donors to give because they are unlocked when the number of gifts, of any size, are contributed. This approach ensures that Aggie parents, alumni, students, employees and community members can maximize the impact of their gifts by working together.
Give Day, this year April 14-15, is a chance to support the causes that resonate with you and your family. For Bruce and Diane, “UC Davis' annual Give Day is the perfect time for parents each year to reflect on the high-quality education and safe community that UC Davis provides its students.”
We are grateful for the generosity and tenacity of Aggie parents, who are determined to make UC Davis stronger this Give Day. With hundreds of challenge gifts and meaningful funds to choose from, please know that your generosity directly impacts students like yours.
