Join the UC Davis Hiking Group and the Active Aggies network for a fun hike in the east bay! This month we will be visiting Sunol Regional Wilderness for a more intermediate hike. Situated in the hills overlooking Fremont and San Jose, this park offers exceptional views into Silicon Valley and the greater Bay Area.
Schedule:
9:30 a.m. Meet at the parking lot and entrance of the trail (Shady Glen Trailhead) here:
9:45 a.m. Depart for hike
2:45 p.m. Finish hike

Total Distance: 7.5 miles round-trip
Elevation Change: 1800 feet
Estimated Duration of hike: 4-5 hours
Directions:
From I-680 south of Pleasanton, take the highway 84/Calaveras Road exit. Turn left on Calaveras Road and drive south 4.2 miles. Turn left on Geary Road and drive 1.7 miles to the park entrance. Continue another 0.25 mile to the entrance of the kiosk, then drive 100 yards past the visitors center to the parking lot across from the horse rental area. The trail begins on the left side of the restrooms at the footbridge.
What to bring:
Bring a lunch, snacks and lot of water as these trails have some strenuous sections. The views, though, are spectacular. We’ll have multiple stops and breaks.
Note
Parking: A $5 day-use fee is charged per vehicle.
Dogs: Leashed dogs are allowed ($2 dog fee)
